Avoid public transit, don’t leave Olympic sites and bring copies of prescriptions with you to Sochi: In the face of terror threats and a security crackdown, the Canadian government has issued updated guidelines for Canadians planning to travel to Sochi, Russia, for the Winter Olympics.

The new guidelines include a recommendation that Canadians avoid using public transportation not affiliated with the Olympics. They also recommend against travelling outside of the designated Olympic sites, because of the ongoing insurgency in the North Caucasus region.

The guidelines also suggest Canadians travelling to Olympic venues carry a copy of their prescriptions, as there are strict restrictions on certain prescription medications and medical supplies.

“We continue to advise all Canadians travelling to the 2014 Winter Games to take sensible precautions and maintain a high level of vigilance at all times and in all places,” said Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Lynne Yelich in a statement.
