More than $12,000 in donations for injured cat helps other SPCA animals

Angel has now had her much-needed eye surgery. BC SPCA Handout

Generous animal lovers donated more than $12,000 to help an abandoned 11-week-old kitten in Chilliwack who needed eye surgery.

Angel is now on the mend and recovering in a BC SPCA foster home.

“We are overwhelmed and so grateful to everyone who responded so generously to help,” said Ivanna Ferris, manager of the Chilliwack SPCA. “Angel had her eye surgery on Jan. 22, and is doing really well in her foster home. Several wonderful families have offered to adopt her so we are just reviewing the applications to find the best match for her.”

So many donations came in that other animals were able to get much-needed surgeries. “When we issued our appeal for help for our medical expenses we were very fortunate to receive generous offers from Dr. Marnie Ford of Pacific Animal Eye Specialty Service and Dr. Kuldeep Chalhal of Cheam View Veterinary Hospital to donate their services for Angel’s surgery, so we were able to use the donations for other injured animals,” said Ferris.

One of those animals is Domingo, a stray Australian cattle dog / blue heeler cross who needs extensive dental surgery for a mouthful of broken teeth.

Domingo will get much-needed dental surgery.

Dustin, a friendly stray cat, was also able to receive treatment for badly infected bite wounds on his back.

“As a non-profit organization that relies on community support to help injured and abused animals, the SPCA is so grateful to everyone who responded with such compassion and generosity,” said Ferris.
