TORONTO – Police may have footage of a suspect in last year’s shooting of a nine-year-old Brampton boy.

Now, they’re hoping the public can help identify him.

The suspect, believed to be a male, was captured on security camera footage running away from the home shortly after shots were fired Jan. 23, 2013.

Police are offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to arrest and conviction of a suspect.

Kesean Williams was playing video games in his living room before going to bed when a bullet pierced the window and hit him in the head.

The boy was taken to SickKids Hospital in Toronto where he later died of his injuries.

Peel Regional Police Homicide Inspector George Koekoek said at a press conference Thursday that the crime “can and will be solved.”

“Exactly one year ago today at approximately 10:25 pm, on Wednesday January 23rd, our community experienced one of its darkest hours,” he said. “A young boy, nine-year-old Kesean Williams was killed by a single gunshot to his head.”

Kesean, his older brother, and their mother had moved into the house the previous week.

Police believe the house was targeted but aren’t sure Kesean or his family were the target.  They believe the shooters may have thought the previous tenant was still in the home.

“We believe the person responsible was targeting the residence and our examination of the physical evidence at the scene confirms that the shooter was standing immediately outside the window when they fired the gun,” Koekoek said. “We are still working on leads to confirm who that shot was meant for and why.”

Police are also looking for three males who were seen standing in a nearby plaza about 75 metres away when the shooting happened. These males aren’t considered suspects but police are hoping to interview them. One was wearing a red hoodie, while another was wearing a black Nike jacket with a stripe down one side. Police didn’t have a description for the third male.
