Everyone in a Port Coquitlam home managed to get out safely last night after flames broke out around 9 p.m.
Fire crews have spent the night putting out hot spots a the home of the three-alarm blaze near St. Thomas Street and Lincoln Avenue.
A family of five with another on the way were celebrating a birthday when fire engulfed the home.
They tried to put it out, but with flames quickly spreading they ran for the door.
Today, Kristie Dana was back at her rented home, trying to assess what’s salvageable from last night’s sudden inferno.
Dana says they had no time to grab any of their belongings.
Everyone managed to get out — but four pets died — two birds and two dogs — by far the hardest of the losses to accept.
Investigators are now trying to determine how the fire started.
The family did not have content insurance.
