A large area of low pressure is situated over Southern B.C. this morning.
Snow is falling on many parts of the province today, and while it is beautiful it can cause many problems for motorists and air travellers.
A travel advisory has been issued for the Coquihalla, Highway 5 and Highway 97C. There is limited visibility with heavy snowfall. Travel is not recommended unless absolutely necessary.
Highway 3 is closed at Highway 43 in Sparwood due to closure on the Alberta side. Visibility is described as “limited”:
While the South Coast is experiencing cool and breezy conditions, it is mostly dry. In the South and Central Interior, snow is falling in a number of areas, and is particularly heavy in the southeast.
Along with the snow, very cold Arctic air is surging southward, creating falling temperatures along with blowing snow. This much colder and windy weather will surge in the Fraser Valley by this evening, leading to winds up to 70 km/h and a growing wind chill factor.
Arctic air will settle over the entire province by tomorrow morning and mostly sunny weather will last for a few days at least.
Morning Lower Mainland temperatures will drop to as low as -8 by Wednesday and Thursday.
