Freeland announces guidelines to support homeowners

Following the announcement of Canada’s new grocery rebate on Wednesday, Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland also discussed new guidelines for federally regulated lenders, which aim to standardize the approach towards Canadian homeowners struggling with rising mortgage payments. That includes the possibility of waiving prepayment penalties, not charging interest on interest and waiving internal fees and costs.
