One day after being elected Toronto’s next mayor, Olivia Chow spoke about the Gardiner Expressway, saying a less-than-kilometre stretch of the highway would be “coming down anyway,” regardless of her mayoral power. She said not rebuilding the stretch could save $500M and go towards “fixing (the) TTC” and making room for up to 8,000 new housing units in the city.
