Before Pope Francis landed in Canada for his 2022 visit, work was already underway to support the mental health of residential school survivors and their families as they dealt with the reopening of old wounds. Now, mental health professionals in Indigenous communities are leaning into the past to help their clients cope with the traumas endured at residential schools.
