Along with the 2022 visit of Pope Francis, Catholic leaders from Alberta made a trip to the Vatican with a delegation of residential school survivors to meet with the pope. Edmonton Archbishop Richard Smith played a prominent role in both the trip to Rome and Pope Francis’ visit to Canada.
