Foreign election interference: Trudeau defends diaspora comments, elaborates on ‘special rapporteur’

Responding to a question about Chinese-Canadian leaders claiming that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was being reductive in linking foreign election interference allegations with racism, Trudeau defended his comments by saying that diaspora communities are often the first targets of such interference. He also elaborated on the mandates of a “special rapporteur,” saying that they would be there to ensure that Canada has the mechanisms and tools to counter foreign interference.
