Alberta premier under fire over allegation of political interference

Another politician facing criticism tonight – Alberta’s premier. New allegations have surfaced that a member of Danielle Smith's staff tried to influence Crown prosecutors. The allegations came to light in a CBC News report, which claimed someone from Smith’s office sent a series of emails challenging the Crown prosecutors’ assessment of cases stemming from the Coutts border blockade in early 2022. Smith denies any knowledge of emails but as Heather Yourex-West explains, this isn’t the first allegation of political interference around COVID-19 charges involving Alberta’s premier.
