At least 17 people were killed on Monday after protesters calling for the release of jailed former president Pedro Castillo clashed with police forces. Prime Minister Alberta Otárola said close to 2,000 protesters also carried out an “organized” and “systematic” attack against police authorities at Juliaca airport in the Puno region.
