Living Regina woman declared dead by Service Canada must prove otherwise
Description
September 28, 2022
Coreen Shatz, a health-care professional, student and mother spoke with Global Regina about her fight to prove she is alive. When Shatz applied for employment insurance on Sept. 14, she discovered Service Canada had declared her deceased. Shatz said Service Canada told her this mistake was the result of human error. She said the responsibility is left with her to provide documents such as her birth certificate, which was unfortunately destroyed in a flood last June. With school approaching and bills to pay Shatz said without a Social Insurance Number she cannot work or apply for student loans.
