Many families were forced to move from their settlements across the province in the 1940’s after a policy was authorized to relocate Mi’kmaq to two reserves — Eskasoni and Shubenacadie. This was an experiment by the government called “centralization” — and what many consider to be reflection of colonization. Amber Fryday caught up with some Eskasoni families about how the effects are still being felt in the community.
