Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confirmed Sunday that a Royal Australian Air Force maritime surveillance aircraft was intercepted by a Chinese J-16 fighter aircraft in May. He said it occurred during “routine maritime surveillance activity” in international airspace. The intercept, he said, resulted in a dangerous maneuvre that “did pose a safety threat” to the aircraft and its crew.
