During the virtual Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit on Tuesday, U.S. President Joe Biden announced plans to provide $100 million to expand the U.S. strategic partnership with ASEAN. It was also the first time in four years that Washington engaged at the top level with a bloc that it sees as key to its strategy of pushing back against China.
