Last week the Canadian Canoe Museum announced that it would no longer be building its new museum next to the Peterborough Lift Lock. A recent environmental study uncovered evidence of soil contamination, leaking into the ground from an adjacent location. After looking at their options, Museum officials announced that cleaning the area before building would be cost prohibitive. It was disappointing news for both the Museum and Parks Canada officials, who had been working on the project for years. Canadian Canoe Museum executive director Carolyn Hyslop stopped by Global News Morning Peterborough to talk about the announcement, and what’s next.
