Authorities in northwest Syria have set up the area’s first quarantine centre, where those entering from Turkey are carefully monitored. The centre, located in the town of Jisr Al Shughour in Idlib province, currently houses around 260 people, with more arriving each day. Syria’s northwest does not yet have a confirmed case of COVID-19, but doctors fear the area’s ravaged medical infrastructure and overflowing camps for displaced people would quickly turn any outbreak into a humanitarian disaster.
