Canada’s recycling industry is in turmoil. Since China shut its doors to the bulk of the world’s recycling, global supply exceeds demand. Blue Box programs are accepting fewer items and instead of selling recycling at a profit, some cities are paying to have some products hauled away. What doesn’t make the cut – goes straight to landfill.
