U.S. House passes bills that would end government shutdown, without wall funds

House Democrats passed two bills Thursday night to reopen the government after a 13 day shutdown. The first bill provided funding for the Department of Homeland Security, and the second provided other agencies with enough funding to reopen the government. Despite passing in the house, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has vowed to kill any bill that President Donald Trump wouldn’t sign. Democratic leadership and President Trump have yet to reach common ground over a disput over border security and funding for a border wall.
