Penticton city staff recommend moratorium on new builds used for short-term rentals

There are concerns the province’s new speculation tax could impact communities where it is not in effect.
Some say investors could avoid the tax in Kelowna and West Kelowna by acquiring vacation rental properties in other Okanagan cities, like Penticton.
As Shelby Thom reports, that city is already facing an affordable housing crunch, partly because of the proliferation of illegal short term rentals.
