Cincinnati Zoo Director Thane Maynard explains the decision to shoot Harambe over darting him after a 4-year-old boy fell into the gorilla’s enclosure on Saturday. “If you were to say dart your household pet, receive a dart yourself, it’d be pretty dramatic response, and if you were an animal like a gorilla that didn’t understand it you could have some sort of displaced aggression,” Maynard said.
