Family outraged woman’s killer granted day parole after 7 years
Description
September 27, 2014
VANCOUVER - The family of a woman murdered in Vancouver seven years ago is outraged her killer was granted day parole.
Nicole Parisien was strangled while working at an illegal massage parlour in Kitsilano.
Her killer, former UBC rugby player Andrew Evans, was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of getting out for 10 years.
However, the criminal code allows parole eligibility three years before the official date of release to ease an eventual transition back into society.
Evans was granted day parole and is now moving back to Calgary.
Nicole's family does not think he should be allowed out.
"I've set my daughter's ashes on my mantle," said Marilyn Wedholm, Nicole's mother.
"She doesn't have a life sitting in that box. My life is never going to be the same."
Nicole's cousin, Helena Lines, is also outraged at the decision.
"He ripped her body to pieces with his hands," said Lines. "He did things I would never say on TV just in case a child is listening."
