Halifax commemorates Emancipation Day
Description
August 1, 2026
August 1st marks Emancipation Day in Halifax. A day to remember the abolition of slavery across the British Empire. And in Halifax, a day to recognize the lasting legacy of African Nova Scotians and African Canadians across the country. Communities across the HRM came together for a ceremony filled with reflection and celebration. And those who attended honoured the history, while looking towards a more inclusive future. Kendra Gannon has more.
