United States Senator Dick Durbin, one of eight Democrats who voted Sunday to advance a procedural vote toward reopening the government, spoke on the Senate floor Monday afternoon to explain what motivated him and seven others to vote the way they did. Meanwhile, U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters that same morning that at long last, “our long national nightmare is over.”
