Singh asks if Trudeau directly urged Poilievre to apply for security clearance
Description
October 21, 2024
During question period in Canada's House of Commons on Thursday, NDP leader Jagmeet Singh asked if Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had directly urged the Leader of the Opposition, Pierre Poilievre, to apply for a security clearance. The issue of Poilievre's lack of security clearance has been a talking point in the halls of Parliament recently. Poilievre said last week that he received a briefing from top security officials on Oct. 14 concerning alleged foreign interference, adding that the CSIS Act allows the government to warn Canadians about specific foreign interference risks without them first being sworn to secrecy. Additionally, Poilievre said his chief of staff receives confidential briefings, and neither he nor government officials have told the Opposition leader about any Conservative parliamentarian knowingly taking part in foreign interference.
