Emancipation Day: Remembering Canada’s history of enslavement

August 1, 2024
Canada and many other countries that were formerly British colonies observe Emancipation Day on August 1st, commemorating the day the U.K. passed the Slavery Abolition Act in 1834 to end enslavement in the British Empire. As Heidi Petracek reports, that history and its vital lessons are the focus of a new exhibit at the Canadian Museum of Immigration in Halifax.
