Ontario is officially ending its COVID-19 wastewater surveillance program, a move some public health experts are calling “incredibly disappointing.” Wastewater surveillance is useful not only for detecting COVID, but it can give an early indication of other viruses on the rise as well, including the possible arrival of the H5N1 avian flu.
