Greece shut more ancient tourist sites and schools in Athens on Thursday and elderly people took refuge at designated cooling centres, as the first major heatwave of the summer persists. Sitting in air-conditioned shelters set up by the municipality, many elderly people said they could not remember such high temperatures in the past, while others dealt with the heat with humour.
