Description
March 3, 2024
WARNING: Some of the images in this story are disturbing. Viewer discretion is advised. Hopes for an imminent ceasefire in Gaza suffered a major setback after Israel boycotted the latest round of peace talks. The Israeli government is reportedly refusing to attend negotiations in Cairo, until Hamas provides a list of the surviving hostages in Gaza. And after the Canadian government issued fresh sanctions against Russia on Sunday, following the death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny last month, Ukraine is calling for more help. The country’s most populated city, Odesa, was bombarded with yet another Russian drone strike on Saturday, leaving at least 10 dead. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy suggested in a nightly address that if weapons from Western allies weren’t delayed, that it may have ended differently. Also, there is growing concern that a highly infectious and dangerous disease could be making a comeback to Canada. Cases of measles have been confirmed in both Ontario and Quebec. In the Maritimes, a Nova Scotia man is out on bail after being charged in the Bahamas in connection with allegations of sexual assault against an elderly Canadian woman with Alzheimer's. Over in the U.S., there is swirling speculation about whether former president Donald Trump will still face trial on multiple federal criminal charges before voters head to the polls in November. Trump's legal maneuvers have successfully thrown the court calendar into question. Lastly, Canada is hoping for a strong showing in track and field at this year's Olympic games, and an Ontario teenager could be a big reason why. Christopher Morales Williams made international headlines this week after running the fastest indoor-400-metre race ever. Unfortunately, he didn't officially set a new world record due to a technicality.
