Tree cutting has come to an abrupt halt at the future site of a factory for electric car batteries south of Montreal. Northvolt had begun preparatory work on the gigantic lot dotted with thousands of trees, after getting the green light from Quebec and municipal authorities. Now, an impending legal challenge from environmentalists has stopped the company in its tracks. But as Global’s Dan Spector reports, the chainsaws may not be quiet for long.
