Canada's Minister of Defence Bill Blair shed light Monday on the department's efforts to reform the military's culture in line with recommendations made by former Supreme Court Justice Louise Arbor and other external reviews. The second biannual status report of the external monitor tracks the implementation of the 48 recommendations made by Arbor in her report on misconduct and sexual harassment in the Department of National Defence (DND) and Canadian Armed Forces, among others. Blair stated that in response to Arbor’s recommendations, Canadian Forces personnel can now directly approach the Canadian Human Rights Commission to hear their cases. The mandate of the Sexual Misconduct Support and Resource Center has also been expanded and improved, he added. Blair announced they’ll launch the Canadian Military College Review Board, which will review Canada's two military colleges and provide recommendations to ensure better protection for officer cadets at the start of their service careers for the country.
