Monday will kick off the start of the union's constitutional convention where elections for Dias' successor, the next secretary-treasurer and regional directors will take place.

'It will now be for Toronto Police to decide whether to investigate any matter connected to that money, and Unifor has no role in that decision,' Unifor said in a statement Monday.

Unifor president Jerry Dias argued in an open letter Wednesday that while takeovers can work against employees' best interest, his union is backing the option that offers the most stability and job security.
