The analysis is based on more than 3.5 million people in South Korea aged 60 and older and included 521,133 people who received a first dose of either Pfizer or AstraZeneca.

The results add to other early findings from studies of vaccine roll-outs in Israel, Scotland and England, which have also pointed to high effectiveness from the first doses.
