Dune came away with six awards, mostly in technical categories. It was recognized for its production design, sound, cinematography, editing, original score and visual effects.

Montreal production designer Patrice Vermette helped design the aliens' written language, which - much like in the film - was submitted to a linguist and a mathematician to be deciphered.
