A Calgary-area family has reached a settlement agreement more than seven years after their son suffered life-altering injuries when he was choked by a school lanyard.

The tragic incident happened three years ago at Bearspaw School west of Calgary. Nicholas Kitzul suffered brain injuries after he was found hanging unconscious by the cord which was stuck in a bathroom stall door.
