A 28-year-old man was charged with second-degree murder Thursday in connection with Montreal's first homicide of 2023. Emmanuel Gendron-Tardif appeared in court in the morning.

The woman's death is considered the 24th homicide in the city this year. Montreal police say the victim's body had marks of violence, but did not provide more details.
