Vancouver native and javelin athlete Liz Gleadle surprised many in her Olympic debut at London 2012 when she became the first Canadian woman to qualify for an Olympic javelin final since 1968.

Faced with one final shot at the Olympics, Noelle Montcalm laid down the perfect race when it counted most on Friday, both winning the women's 400-metre hurdles and dipping below the qualifying standard, clinching her spot on Canada's Rio-bound track and field team.

The 27 year-old has been throwing javelin since she was in junior high, and is now training for her second Olympics.
