Justice Minister David Lametti had called for its speedy passage so the gap in the law could be addressed before Parliament rose for a summer break.

The Senate can now move to follow a similar process and pass Bill C-28 at all stages by way of a unanimous motion, but several senators have indicated they want more scrutiny.
