At least one person has been fired after a racist incident occurred while students participated in an Indigenous smudging ceremony at a south Edmonton school last week.

"During the ceremony, members of the construction crew swore, made racist remarks, and ran their equipment so that it was difficult for the participants to hear the ceremony," said the principal of Edith Rogers School in a letter to parents.
