The Crystal Serenity cruise ship arrived in New York on Friday after its ground-breaking but controversial voyage through the Northwest Passage, a trip that was made possible by warming temperatures that have melted ice cover in the Arctic.

The luxury cruise ship that will soon sail the Northwest Passage from Anchorage to New York, and costs upwards of $160,000 per person, is currently docked in Vancouver's port.

The Crystal Serenity, the biggest cruise ship to plan a transit of the Northwest Passage, is so large that Canadian officials are holding special meetings this week to prepare.
