In a statement carried by Saudi Arabia’s official state news agency, a Saudi military spokesman said that the ceasefire would last two weeks and that it comes in response to U.N. calls to halt hostilities amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Saudi Arabia imposed a temporary lockdown on Sunday on the eastern oil-producing province of Qatif, home to all 11 people in the kingdom who have tested positive for the coronavirus, and suspended all schools and universities nationwide.

A total of 26 people have died so far in Iran, the world's highest death toll outside of China, where the outbreak began.
