Regina fire marshall Randy Ryba said the city is considering issuing its second-ever fire ban amid continued dry conditions.

Edmonton Fire Rescue Chief Ken Block says he believes that education isn't working when it comes to what he calls "irresponsible smokers" starting expensive and dangerous fires in the city, and that more needs to be done to stop it.

While the number of fires has remained about on par with previous years, the amount of damage caused by smoking-related fires is on track to double from last year.
