Ontario English Catholic Teachers' Association president Liz Stuart says the vote sends a message to the government that members won't accept an agreement that would be detrimental to learning and working conditions in schools.

The Alberta government is investigating employment agreements signed by Catholic school teachers amid concerns they could be fired for being in gay or common-law relationships.

There are no contract negotiations scheduled to head off possible strikes by tens of thousands of Ontario teachers this fall, and the government admits talks are at an impasse.
