It's been 21 years since Canada's last stint on the Security Council, the country's longest absence from it in United Nations' history.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will address the United Nations General Assembly in New York next week, underscoring Canada's commitment to multilateralism as it vies for a coveted seat on the Security Council.

Canada has won the support of Serbia in its bid for a temporary seat on the United Nations Security Council in 2020.
