Alberta Wildfire said the fire broke out Friday afternoon in an area that has seen little snowfall so far this winter, and high winds of more than 100 km/h had fanned the flames.

Environment Canada issued severe thunderstorm warnings for parts of central and northern Alberta Friday afternoon and by evening, warnings had been issued for some parts of southern Alberta as well.
