Ahmad Alissa, who has schizophrenia, pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity for fatally shooting 10 people including a police officer in the college town of Boulder in 2021.

The court case has been on hold since December 2021 when a judge first ruled that the suspect was mentally incompetent and sent him to the state hospital for treatment.
