BC LIONS 70TH ANNIVERSARY REGULAR SEASON

June 8 – October 19

980 CKNW is back as the radio broadcasting home of your BC Lions for the 2024 CFL season!

Tune in from 60 minutes before gametime with Bob “The Moj” Marjanovich and former Lions quarterback Giulio Caravatta for every minute of the action. Your broadcast crew will call every play, with post-game coverage, conversation and calls after every game.

Every Tuesday night at 10:00 pm- 11:00pm Moj, Matt Baker & Nik Kowalski will broadcast from a different pub in the Lower Mainland! The fellas will talk plenty of Lions football plus promote all of the exciting upcoming events surrounding our nine regular season home games.

You won’t want to miss this year’s marquee matchups! Our Concert Kickoff home opener takes place Saturday June 15. This year the squad takes on our rivals from Saskatchewan in the annual Watermelon Smash game on Saturday July 13. Plus, the first ever Touchdown Pacific will be hitting Victoria on Saturday August 31st

BARD ON THE BEACH 2024 SEASON

Bard on the Beach is Western Canada’s largest not-for-profit, professional Shakespeare Festival. Presented in Vancouver’s Sen̓ákw/Vanier Park against a spectacular backdrop of mountains, sea and sky, the Festival offers Shakespeare plays, related dramas and special events in two modern performance tents from June through September, with an average attendance of 100,000. The Festival is known for its signature blend of high-quality artistic programming and a welcoming, informal experience for local residents and visitors from around the world. Bard Education offers year-round opportunities to play and explore Shakespeare, through programs for youth, emerging theatre artists, and our general community.

The Alzheimer Society of B.C.’s fundraising event, Climb for Alzheimer’s, returns Sunday, September 22 for its final year at Grouse Mountain. Scale new heights, rise to the challenge and champion people on what can be an uphill journey. The Climb for Alzheimer’s returns on Sunday, September 22 for its final year at Grouse Mountain. There are two ways to participate – hike the Grouse Grind® or walk the more accessible Summit Stroll atop Grouse Mountain. Scale new heights, rise to the challenge and champion people affected by dementia while raising vital funds in support of the Alzheimer Society of B.C.’s programs and services for anyone on the dementia journey. Together, we can help build a province where people living with dementia, their caregivers and their families are acknowledged, supported and included: a truly dementia-friendly B.C.

VANCOUVER INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) presents its 43rd edition next month. The 2024 festival will feature more than 350 screenings, dozens of filmmaker Q&A’s, Talks with top creatives, live performances, artist and industry development programs, parties, and many more celebrations of film culture. Showcasing 150 features (including more than 70 premieres) and 81 shorts, VIFF 2024 is a festival of unrepeatable experiences. Symphonic special events and VIFF Live will provide Vancouver audiences with unique performances that have never been seen before and are unlikely to ever be seen again.

VIFF will officially open with Ari’s Theme by local filmmakers Jeff Lee Petry and Nathan Drillot, a beautifully made documentary about British Columbia composer Ari Kinarthy, who lives with spinal muscular atrophy. Born with the soul of an artist and a passion for composing music, Ari embarks on an ambitious goal: to create music that will capture his life and leave a legacy through which others will remember him. In a singular live performance and cinematic experience, eight members of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra will live score select passages within the film. The evening will be supported by TELUS originals.

The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO) announces its 2024 season: A season of irresistible musical experiences and one of its most exciting to date.

Led by Music Director Otto Tausk since 2018, the VSO performs more than 150 concerts each year, throughout Vancouver and the province of British Columbia, reaching over 270,000 people annually. “This season we’re bringing you huge masterpieces from the classical repertoire: two superb Mahler symphonies, Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5, Verdi’s Requiem, Stravinsky’s Petrouchka, Haydn’s Creation, Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5, and others, including a British Columbia premiere of John Adams’ game-changing masterwork Harmonielehre.”

The orchestra presents passionate, high-quality performances of classical, popular and culturally diverse music, creating meaningful engagement with audiences of all ages and backgrounds.
