Shodo Island — located in the Inland Sea — is home to nearly 500 Japanese Macaques, also known as snow monkeys. Every year, tourists flock to see the wild animals cuddling for warmth.

In groups of 20 to 30, the precocious primates huddle together in a ball-like formation to protect themselves.

Temperatures in the region can dip to -15 degrees in the winter months.
