Woman in life-threatening condition after serious collision on Groat Road: police

A 43-year-old woman has been sent to hospital with life-threatening injuries after colliding into a tree Saturday morning.

The woman was sitting in the rear seat of the Mini Cooper beside a four-year-old child who sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The 43-year-old male driver also only sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the car was heading north on Groat Road nearing the bend at 115th Avenue when the collision happened.

Neither speed nor alcohol are believed to be factors, police said Saturday afternoon.

The northbound lanes of Groat Road from 116th Avenue were closed Saturday after 10 a.m. An update from police says the roads are expected to open by 2:30 p.m.

Police are asking anyone who was in the area with dash cam footage or who witnessed the crash, to contact Edmonton police at 780-423-4567.
